Dreams can come true, I can testify to that. Retirement from a career in education provided me the opportunity to fulfill my lifelong desire to paint in watercolor. It has been an adventurous journey, and I have learned to view the world around me with new eyes. My artwork reflects what intrigues me—vibrant color, the story behind the subject, people and animal life, light and shadow, point of view—in a representational style. Although my primary media of choice is transparent watercolor, I also paint with soft pastel enjoying the textural process of creating with my fingertips and the rich color palette, and recently with acrylic on canvas. I have attended workshops presented by artists Jo Williams, Jerry Stitt, Cecy Turner, Joyce Hicks, Charlie Bullock, John Billings, Debbie Cannatella, David Tripp, Tina Bohlman, Bonnie Broitzman, Angie Banta Brown, Sharon Rouse, Dorothy Johnston, Belinda Logan, Michael Holter, Steve Rogers, and Janet Rogers.
My work has received numerous awards including Best of Show in the 2016 and 2006 Henderson County Art Show, State Fair of Texas ribbons including five blue ribbons, Best of Show in the 2010 Mineola Art Show, 3rd place in watercolor at the Irving Art Assoc. Juried Wildlife Show 2010, and paintings juried into the Southwestern Watercolor Society annual exhibitions, Richardson Civic Art Society Regional Exhibitions, the Garden Gallery at the Dallas Arboretum, the Society of Watercolor Artists Member Exhibitions and International Juried Exhibitions in Ft. Worth, the Irving Art Assoc. Wildlife Show, and 3 separate exhibitions in Gallery Main Street in Tyler. I earned signature status in both the Society of Watercolor Artists (Ft. Worth) and Southwestern Watercolor Society (Dallas).
My work is currently on display at 211 Gallery in Athens, TX.
